The Microsoft Hololens is a virtual reality headset and platform from Microsoft. It was initially known during development as "Project Baraboo". The device is a pair of mixed-reality head-mounted "smart glasses", able to display projected virtual reality images over actual reality. Development of the Hololens branched out from development of the Kinect, an add-on for the Microsoft Xbox 360, and later the Xbox One, that was introduced in 2010. The pre-production version, termed the Development Edition, was released on March 30th, 2016, at a list price of $3,000. As of February 2016, the consumer version has been delayed.
Microsoft HoloLens is the first fully self-contained, holographic computer, enabling you to interact with high‑definition holograms in your world. Windows Holographic enables a world of mixed reality – where devices work together – regardless of whether they are developed for virtual reality, augmented reality, or anything in-between. Windows Holographic will help expand the Windows ecosystem far beyond the PC. Transform the ways we communicate, create, collaborate, and explore. Your ideas are closer to becoming real when you can create and work with holograms in relation to the world around you.
